Met Gala 2023

The annual charity event hosted by Anna Wintour (Vogue’s Editor in Chief) was held Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met ball is a black tie extravaganza held in the first Monday of May each year. This is a charity event to help raise money for the museum’s fashion wing, last year bringing in 17.4 million dollars and this year raising 2.6 million. Anna Wintour has been the chief of this event since 1999 taking it all the way to a world wide loved event. Mostly superstars in Hollywood are invited to the prestigious invite only event, dressing in top name brands.

“In honor of Karl”

Guests are provided with a theme to dress by, this year’s being “In honor of Karl”. Paying homage to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld was a German Fashion designer beginning his soon to be infamous career in the 1950’s. Most known for his time worked at the three visually familiar fashion institutes such as Chanel, Fendi, and his own brand.

Best Dressed

Sydney Sweeney dressed in Miu Miu

In my opinion Anne Hathaway was best dressed in Versace. What made this so special was obviously it was deeply inspired by Karl with the tweed, colors, and flowers. However, you can sense individuality by Versace with the pins. It just comes together and makes a beautiful look.

Conan Gray dressed in Balmain, this is by far the best dressed men’s look. I deeply enjoy how he is not in a plain black tux. I love the details and the plain influence from Karl.

Jenna Ortega dressed in Thom Browne. I love the silhouette and tweed, it so flattering on her. And the detailing looks amazing.

Anok Yai in Prabal Gurung. This look is so show stopping. There is a lot going on but it seems to just go together.

I think that this was on of the best met galas in a while. Everyone was so on theme and everyone looked so stunning. There was a common trend of neutral colors, tweed, pearls, and gold. I think that Karl Lagerfeld would have loved it.
